At 18 months, Norton is past the puppy stage, but still very willing to learn new behaviors.  He is food-motivated, so training is very easy.  He learned within a day that if he sat, he would get his food dish at dinner.  He is looking for an owner who will spend the time to continue training him, and be a good pack leader for him.  He also wants an owner that will play with him and take him on daily walks.  Being a rescue dog, he is a little skittish, and is scared by sudden movements.  He takes a little while to warm up to a person.  Once he gets to know you, though, you become his newest BFF!  He also takes a little while to feel secure that a dog he meets is not a threat.  Right now he is in a household with 7 other dogs, that range from a Miniature Poodle to a Doberman Pinscher, and is settling in nicely.  He quickly was comfortable with the smaller dogs, but is now getting used to the larger ones.  Norton is part Lhasa Apso and he really wants to be a guard dog when he grows up, like his forebears who guarded the temples and monasteries in Tibet.  He practices by barking at strange noises.  He has said he can give that up, if his new owner does not want him to be a guard dog - - but he’ll need some training help for that.  Norton was picked up as a stray and had fur that was matted to over an inch thick.  There was no salvaging his coat, so he had to be shaved down.  However, he should have a long, full coat when his fur grows in.  He is looking for an owner who is willing to put in the work to keep his fur well groomed.  In addition to professional grooming at least once a month, he needs to be brushed once a day to keep his full coat from matting.  Adoption fee for him is $100, donations are always welcome.
